I enjoyed the great hands-on experience that I wouldn’t have been able to get at medical school. Skills were taught in much more detail that I had learnt previously.

I practiced a lot of hands-on work. The background knowledge regarding instruments was explained that was useful.

Practical skills, especially laparoscopy, was excellent. I liked the animal tissue which was much more realistic (than artificial skin).

Good hands-on experience. The course covered all aspects needed at this stage.

I enjoyed the laparoscopy practical workshop and the gowning session. The support from staff was excellent.

I enjoyed having real tissue (animal tissue). The tutor to student ratio was good.

Tutors were very helpful. The programme ran on schedule.

All parts were explained very clearly. There was enough time and plenty of tutors when trying to practice the task. A lot of information and skills was taught in just one day.

I enjoyed the use of animal tissue in suturing, LA techniques etc... especially, with ‘fake’ abscesses. I liked the high tutor-participant ratio.

I liked the fact that we are provided with a DVD

There were a lot of tutors to supervise us; they constantly walked around the room to guide us and give feedback

Wound debridement and diathermy were new to me and I have never come across them on other basic surgical courses

Experienced tutors/good tutor number

Range of common procedure for FY1/2’s to know to practice

The faculty: participant ratio was very good, allowing feedback in a one to one sitting

Revision of surgical knots – particularly when in practice different surgeons teach different methods, it was good to go over the accurate way to perform this.

Cyst removal, lesion removal & endoscopy which were all new procedures

Lots of individual help

Actual teaching on suturing techniques that we don’t get taught otherwise

Make sure we adapt to/adopt goof habits in handling surgical instruments

Ample time to practice sutures

Faculty members were extremely helpful and good teachers

Equipment was very good – liked the knot tying equipment and laparoscopic equipment

It was so hands on

Demonstrations of suturing wound management etc were excellent and very clear.

Ability to be taught and then practice suturing

Clinicians and people in clinical training available to talk to

Option to practise laparoscopy skills

The ability to practice techniques on animal models

The teaching whereby they were not patronising

The organisation where were were allowed to watch a demonstration the practice the skill

Appreciated the course content, faculty: participant ratio and the patience of the trainers.

Plenty of times were given to practise. Demonstrators are very friendly and passionate to teach. Adequate time to practice the skills.

Enjoyed the suturing session, both interrupted and sub cuticular. The laparoscopy instruments and the session on excising the cyst were interesting.

Loads of highly skilled surgeons as faculty - a good ratio to students. All were keen and readily available. Suturing using actual tissue rather than plastic things. Variety of techniques demonstrated that have it I haven’t seen or done before.

Very hands on. One-to-one teaching. Use of animal tissue, artificial cysts, and abscess would. High standard of teaching.
